Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup & Qualifier Rounds
Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in
soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the , the annual U.S. Open Cup is a 95-year-old single-elimination tournament. In 1999, the U.S. Open Cup was renamed the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup to honor the long-time soccer supporter and pioneer.
Each division from each league within affiliated amateur and professional teams in the will be allowed to send one qualifier to the single elimination tournament that begins in June. Since this Open Cup will be held during the Sockers season, a special rule is in effect by only allowing these Cup games to be played on Tuesday’s in June and July. The qualifier will be selected from the team with the best record in the Mid-South Division through the first four regular season games.
The team with the best record in the Mid-South Division of the Premier Developmental League will advance to the Open Cup playoffs, with dates and game times to be announced after the field is set. Last season, DC United, a member of Major League Soccer, took home the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
