As a sophomore at West Texas A&M (2009), saw time in 13 contests, starting in two.

John was named to the all-LSC Academic Team for his success in the classroom (he is a Mechanical Engineering major).

In his freshman year, 2008: Cox saw action in 15 games during the season, in which he recorded one assist, with one shot (and one shot on goal).

The native of the panhandle graduated from AmarilloHigh School.
