Cottle, who is (and will remain) head coach of Midland High School’s boys soccer team, now takes over on the sidelines for the Sockers in 2011, as the franchise enters its third season of play in the Premier Development League.
The Clovis, New Mexico, native has built one of the most impressive soccer resumés in West Texas.
Midland High’s head coach since 2006, Cottle has also coached at San Angelo Central, Odessa Permian, and Pampa High School and is prominent in virtually all levels of youth soccer in the area. He has conducted youth soccer camps statewide, including Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Pampa and Beaumont.
In addition to coaching at MHS, he serves as Head West Texas Staff Coach in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and is the Director of Coaching and Player Development for the Midland Soccer Association. His responsibilities with MSA include teaching weekly age-group clinics for youth players.
Cottle also serves as President of the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.
Soccer coaches are licensed, by levels, with class “A” being the highest. Cottle is the only coach in the Permian Basin, and one of a very few in the state of Texas, with an “A” coaching license.
Since 1998, he has also taught licensing courses, through which coaches may earn their state license, for the North Texas Soccer Association.
Cottle succeeds Jesus Enriquez, who coached the Sockers in the franchise’s first two seasons, leading the club to the PDL playoffs in 2009.
Cottle’s coaching career began as a JV coach and varsity assistant at San Angelo (TX) Central High School in 1994 (he would return to the school as head coach in 2002). His first head coaching position came the following year at Pampa (TX) High School, where his involvement included raising funds for, designing, and helping to build two soccer fields for the Pampa ISD. He came to Odessa Permian in 1998, posting a 57-35-1 mark in five seasons with the Mojo soccer team. After a second stint in San Angelo, he returned to the Permian Basin, this time at MHS, in 2006. In addition to his coaching duties, Warren teaches Algebra I & II, Geometry, and TAKS Math.
